It is with immense gratitude and full hearts that we write to you today to announce the closing of the Phoenix story.
Since 2014 we have been so honored to perform over 50 concerts of incredible music in venues across Boston. From Cambridge and Brookline to Seaport and Back Bay you’ve proved time and time again that orchestral music, often maligned as old and dying, is alive and thriving.
We have always believed in what Leonard Bernstein called the Infinite Variety of Classical Music, and our programs have reflected the remarkable tapestry that classical music has to offer. You’ve joined us for performances of works from across centuries, including well known masterpieces as well as Boston, East Coast, American, and World Premieres of spectacular new works.
Over the past decade, Phoenix has been more than just a passion project—it has grown alongside us, evolving and, like its namesake, reinventing itself constantly. As with any meaningful endeavor, it has demanded more love, care, and time with each passing year.
Life has also evolved for the members of the Phoenix team. Our lives have shifted and changed in ways that, while exciting and fulfilling, mean we no longer have the space or capacity to nurture a project of this magnitude as it deserves. It’s a bittersweet realization, but one that comes with deep gratitude for everything Phoenix has been and continues to represent.
Worry not, though, with Phoenix leaving the stage there are several other amazing groups doing similar work right here in Boston. Whether you came to Phoenix an already seasoned listener or came to love this music through one of our concerts, we hope it always stays with you. Our friends at both A Far Cry and Palaver Strings always have accessible chamber orchestra shows in store and Castle of Our Skins, Collage New Music, and The Callithumpian Consort are all performing amazing new music in our city.
We’ve treasured every moment of making music for you, and we’re so thankful for your incredible energy, donations, and support over the years. It’s something we’ll never forget.
Thank you, again, for being a part of this unforgettable journey. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
